Services Specific To Individuals
Working As Independent Contractors

While the majority of consultation in the space of independent contractor compliance is directed at businesses seeking to engage workers, Intend chooses to also offer services directly to those individuals who are being presented with an offer to engage as an independent contractor or who have an interest in leaving the "corporate world" to venture out on their own.  We feel that this is an area that is often overlooked in the space of worker classification consulting and Intend wants to offer that important and informative service.

In our experience we frequently hear “I received an offer of employment…I’m so excited!!” or "I am tired of working for someone else...I want to be my own boss!". We understand both situations from the perspective of the independent worker.  However, a closer look at the details of the offer presented or the business situation of the individual may result in a different response.

At Intend we feel that it is important for individuals to understand the details of the “employment” offer when it is presented to them as a 1099 independent contractor engagement. We have seen many cases wherein an individual is excited to have been offered a role within a company…a “job”…however when asked the question as to whether the offer is as a W2 employee or as a 1099 independent contractor, they don’t have an answer, nor do they understand the implications of being an independent contractor. Likewise, for the individual who wants to venture out on their own, they are not always fully informed as to all that is required from a tax and legal compliance perspective of them as an independent contractor or the realities of the differences between working as an independent contractor versus an employee.

Given that working as an independent contractor carries with it certain tax responsibilities to the individual as well as a lack of certain “employee” benefits, which they would reasonably expect as an employee, Intend feels that it is important for the individual to be cognizant of the realities so that they can make an educated and informed decision as to whether or not being an independent contractor is right for them.

Intend is here to be that source of education and information for you as a prospective independent worker. If you have been presented with an offer to work as an independent contractor, we can help you to have an understanding the offer and what that means to you as a worker. If you have decided to go from being a W2 employee to a new venture of being an independent contractor, we can help you understand the implications of that as well.
